Diamond Jubilee Summer Show
Saturday 28th August 2004
Kew Green
Another very successful Show was held on the
28th of August - the 60th since the Society began in 1938, with a
few shows cancelled due to the War. Despite the pouring rain the day before,
the gardeners managed to harvest their flowers, fruit and vegetables to display
a record number of entries. Children's entries were up again this year with
some wonderfully imaginative Monsters.
Our cookery judge, Mrs. Aston-Coe
commented that the bread exhibits were of an exceptionally high standard; she
judges about 40 shows a year around London and says she is always happy to come
to the Kew Show, as it is the only one with a marquee on the Green, a great
village atmosphere, and a good day out for all the family.
There were more outside stalls this year but we think we kept a balance between local associations and charities and crafts, books, plants, and teas. Music from the Tim Garner Quartet entertained everyone. After a wet and anxious (for the Committee) week, a record number of visitors came to the Show.
We were delighted to have Sam Newton, a long-time member, to present the awards, and congratulate the following people:~
